When one of you sneezes he should say:

“All praise is for Allah.”

…and his brother or companion should say to him:

“May Allah have mercy upon you.”

…and he (i.e. the one who sneezed) should reply back to him:

“May Allah forgive us and you.”


Note: if the person who sneezed does not say "Alhamdu lillah" others around him should not say the dua for him as mentioned in a separate Ḥadeeth by the prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

alḥamdu lillaah rab-bil ‘aala-meen

yarḥamuk-allaah


[For a female]

yarḥamuki-llaah


yaghfirul-laah lana wa lakum
