The prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say the following before starting the Night Prayer:
Allah is the greatest! (10 times)
How far from imperfections Allah is! (10 times)
O Allah, forgive me! (10 times)
O Allah, forgive me and guide me [to righteousness], provide me subsistence and grant my body health.
I seek refuge in Allah from the tightness (or suffocation) of my standing on the day of judgement.
