The Islamic greeting #1
Dua No: 207
السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
Translation
“Peace be upon you, and the Mercy of Allâh and His Blessings.”

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “You shall not enter paradise until you believe, and you shall not believe until you love one another,

Shall I not inform you of something, if you were to act upon it, you will indeed achieve mutual love for one another? Spread the greeting amongst yourselves.”

Ammar (RA) said, “Three characteristics, whoever combines them, has completed his faith: to be just, to spread greetings to all people and to spend (charitably) out of the little you have.”

Abdullah Ibn AAamr (RA) reported that a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): Which Islam is the best?

He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, “Feed (the poor), and greet those whom you know as well as those whom you do not.”

Notes:
*The best is the one who initiates the salam.

* replying to Salam is Wajib (mandatory) although one person replying is sufficient on behalf of a group.

*It is a Sunnah to give salam to children (in house or outside).

*Salam is also to be said when leaving a gathering (or just someone), not only when meeting them.
